Deep Self-Exploration: Hawai’i Holotropic Breathwork RetreatIn Person

This June, immerse yourself in the transformative power of Grof® Breathwork on the stunning island of the Big Island in Hawai’i.

This 3-day, non-residential retreat provides a powerful opportunity for self-discovery, healing, and personal growth through four breathwork sessions, two as a breather and two as a sitter.

Grof® Breathwork is the brand of holotropic breathwork currently offered by the Grof Legacy communities authorized by Stan and Brigitte Grof. Developed by Stan and Christina Grof at the Esalen Institute in 1974, holotropic breathwork is an experiential method of self-exploration and healing designed to induce deep holotropic states of consciousness through a combination of very simple means—accelerated breathing, evocative music, and focused bodywork that helps to release residual bioenergetic and emotional blocks.

A large room with multiple beds on the floor, each covered with blankets and pillows. Some beds have personal items placed on or beside them. The room has high wooden ceilings, pendant lights, and small stained-glass windows. Chairs are lined along the wall, and there are water bottles and supplies near the beds.

How does it work?

By activating the unconscious and mobilizing blocked energies, Grof® Breathwork invites access to all levels of human experience including unfinished issues from our post-natal biography, traumatic physical or emotional events, perinatal memories, death and rebirth sequences, and a variety of transpersonal experiences that can reach mythological, archetypal, and universal realms.

This non-residential retreat combines four experiences of Grof® Breathwork (two as a breather and two as a sitter) and is an ideal introduction to our work and community.

We will gather on the sunset side of the Big Island, and invite you to luxuriate in the beauty of the Kona coast before or after the retreat…

What if I’ve never done breathwork before?

No problem. No experience is necessary. We will give you all the information you need to have a powerful experience when we gather on Friday morning. If you’d like to learn about Holotropic States, here is a three minute video of Stan talking about their value throughout time and how he discovered the name “holotropic.” Or if you have more time, check out Stan’s interview with Tim Ferriss.

Where should I stay?

Lodging is not included, but several options are nearby: Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa (15 mins drive & where the above photo was taken), Holualoa Inn B&B (20 mins drive), and various Airbnbs in the area and near Kealakekua Bay (20 mins drive).

Why do I have to fill out a health questionnaire?

Grof® Breathwork is a transformative experience designed to facilitate deep self-exploration and healing. Due to the intense physical and emotional nature of the practice, certain health conditions may pose risks during breathwork sessions. To ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, please review our health considerations before registering for a workshop. You may also view our health questionnaire prior to registration.

Is there an early bird price? What about a Kama’āina price? What if I want to come but can’t afford it?

Yes to all three!

If you sign up before May 4, 2025, save $50. And if you’re a local with a Hawai’i license, save $75.

We strive to create a welcome and inclusive community that engenders a sense of belonging, respect, openness, and safety in order to facilitate a personally meaningful process for each participant.  Our intent is to support all participants in their work of self-exploration and discovery. Thus, limited sliding scale opportunities are available.

Please inquire directly with Gianna at gianna@grof-legacy-training-usa.com.

Are meals included?

Dinner will be included on Thursday evening during our optional welcome gathering. We’d love to see you there!

For food and drinks throughout the retreat, we will provide filtered water, a selection of teas, and light snacks. Guests are responsible for providing their own meals.
